Description
This exceptional antique George II Newcastle sterling silver chocolate pot has a plain tapering cylindrical form with a subtly flared moulded base.
The plain body of this antique hot chocolate pot is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest* of a wolf"s head collared.
The upper rim and foot of this exceptional example of Georgian silverware are encircled with applied moulded borders.
This impressive example of antique teaware is fitted with a domed hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with a detachable cast sterling silver push fit urn style finial.
The chocolate pot is fitted with an opposing scroll style carved painted wood handle with scrolling thumbpiece and fitted to plain sterling silver sockets.
The upper and lower sockets are ornamented with impressive applied cut card tear drop designs in junCtion with the body.
The chocolate pot has an impressive cast swan necked spout with an applied moulded border to the socket, in addition to a plain fluted design to the lower portion.
Condition
This antique Georgian silver chocolate pot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
There are some minor natural fire marks, as to be expeCted in keeping with age.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base and lion passant to the sleeve of the cover are all very clear.
